We headed back to Canada at the end of 2010 and knew that would be the test for us... how would we feel when it was time to head back to Abu Dhabi? It was great to get back and see family and friends, but I have to admit, by the time the holiday was nearing its end - we were ready to come home! Walking back into the school was a great feeling and it was good to be with the staff and the kids again.
A lot has been going on since we've been back and it seems we never really get a chance to sit and relax - which is probably why it took me so long to update this page! We celebrated National Day in December and just finished our International Day celebrations this week at school. I have had the privilege of participating in a lot of school events over my years, but nothing has ever compared to what our school community puts together to celebrate what the school calls International Day. Parents set up display tents representing their home countries and serve food and have informational displays and fun activities for the kids. The staff and students put on an international show in the afternoon for the parents and the school and as I looked around the crowd of parents during the performance there were a lot of kleenex being pulled out by mothers - and even a few fathers!...and maybe the principal a couple of times too! It was amazing!
I head back to Canada on March 12 for a week to interview potential teachers for the 2011-12 school year and then fly back to Abu Dhabi, work for a week and then we are off to Thailand for Spring Vacation. Once that is done we are on the count down to summer vacation and a chance to visit and see everyone back in Alberta again - and get back to playing baseball with the guys...who knew there would be absolutely NO baseball over here???
Tale care everyone - and we'll connect soon!
